ALGIERS, July 2 (Xinhua) -- The Algerian soccer team received a "hero's welcome" upon their arrival Wednesday to the Houari Boumediene International Airport of Algiers, following their impressive performance in the World Cup in Brazil.

The teammates of captain Madjid Bouguerra were welcomed by top government officials, including Prime Minister, Abdelmalek Sellal, and Sport Minister, Mohamed Tahmi, in addition to a massive crowd who rushed to the players to take pictures with them.

After they took a rest at the VIP hall of the airport follwing their non stop 11 hours flight from Brazil, the men of Bosnian coach Vahid Halilhozic made their way on an open-top bus to the President's Office.

Along their way, the national team was provided with massive welcome by their fans who crowded the streets. Flags of Algeria were waved by the fans as they chanted patriotic slogans, including the famous "One, Two Three, Viva l'Algerie."

The participation of the Desert Foxes at the World Cup, being held in Brazil, was impressive, as they managed to make it to the knockout stage for the first time in their history.

They lost against Belgium in the opening game, before striking South Korea 4-2 and drawing with Russia 1-1. In the round of 16, Algeria faced Germany and lost 2-1 after additional time.

After their performance in the World Cup, the Greens deserve the respect of the world of football.
