TEHRAN, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Carlos Queiroz has stepped down from Iran's soccer national team coach at the end of Iran's campaign in the World Cup, Tehran Times daily reported on Saturday.
The Portuguese quit after Iran failed to progress into the knockout stage of the World Cup.
"I've shown my commitment to this project, but I haven't received any new contract offer" from Iran, Queiroz was quoted as saying.
"It's been an honor for me to work for Iran, I've fallen in love with the country. But you can't have a marriage when only one side wants to commit," he said, adding that "I waited for them to make an offer, but I haven't received anything."
The Iranian team opened its campaign with a draw against Nigeria in Group F but lost to Argentina and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
