LUSAKA, June 24 (Xinhua) -- The head of Zambia's soccer governing body expressed optimism that African teams at the ongoing World Cup in Brazil will do the continent proud and some may progress to the quarter-finals of the tournament, the Post of Zambia reported on Tuesday.
Zambia is being represented by Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria, Algeria and Cote d'Ivoire. Cameroon has so far been eliminated in the first round after losing the first three games while the remaining four countries have hopes to progressing to the last 16.
Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Kalusha Bwalya said Ghana's 2-2 draw with Germany and Nigeria's 1-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina as well as Algeria's 4-2 mauling of South Korea has rekindled hopes for the African contingent.
"I am optimistic now. They (African teams) have shown hard work and you can see that they want to be there. We will have to see how the last matches go but it is promising," he was quoted as saying by the paper.
