SYDNEY, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Veteran Australian midfielder and key playmaker Mark Bresciano said on Tuesday his side had a chance to "make history" against Holland in the World Cup group stage.
After losing 3-1 to Chile on Saturday, Australia must score points in its Wednesday clash with the 2010 World Cup finalist, who thrashed world champions Spain 5-1 in their group match on the weekend.
"Of course we are confident, without confidence it's pointless going on the park," Bresciano told News Corp Australia.
"We believe we have a chance to do something, this is our last chance to survive and stay in and get thorough to the next round. We all know how important this game is."
"We are here to try and make history. we are going to play one of the best teams in the world so this is a good opportunity to make a mark in the World Cup."
Bresciano said striker Tim Cahill was Australia's go-to-guy in attack.
"Looking towards the final third of the park not much is going to change because we do have a player like Tim (Cahill) where if we give him the right sevice he will be dangerous," he said.
"That's still something that we are going to try to do, provide him in the box." "Having someone like Tim up front is very important for us, as a team we know if we provide him with the right service he can do damage. It's a good outlet for us and something we need to work on as a team to give him that service."
