MADRID, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Spain coach Vicente del Bosque decided to include striker Diego Costa in his final squad of 23 players in defending the World Cup title they won 4 years ago in South Africa.
Del Bosque decided to include the Brazilian born forward in the final squad, which was announced on Saturday, just 12 hours after he had said Costa was still a doubt due to a hamstring injury which has troubled him for the past month.
Atletico Madrid full back Juanfran Torres, who was another injury doubt has also been included in the squad, along with Atletico Madrid striker David Villa. Meanwhile Real Madrid full back Dani Carvajal misses the final cut.
Del Bosque had commented after his side's slightly unconvincing 2-0 win over Bolivia late on Friday night that midfielder Ander Iturraspe, who played all 90 minutes of the game, and left back Alvaro Moreno, would not be in his squad along with Jesus Navas who has been unable to recover from injury.
"It breaks my heart to see Navas," commented Del Bosque on Friday night. "He has been out of action for two months. He is almost fully fit, but he has not played for two months and I would rather bring a player in condition that one who we have doubts over."
Del Bosque also gave a vote of confidence to Fernando Torres who opened the scoring from the penalty sport, but who also missed chances to extend Spain's lead.
"It was a workout for Torres and for everyone. We have a lot of confidence in his and that is why he is here," said the Spain coach.
