MONTEVIDEO, May 27 (Xinhua) -- The coach of Uruguay's national team, Oscar Tabarez, on Tuesday announced a possible list of players for Brazil 2014 where forward Diego Forlan replaces Luis Suarez, who underwent a meniscus surgery last week and so far it is not sure he can play.
During the first training with the 25 players of the shortlist, Tabarez cleared the doubts about the possible replacement of Suarez. The Uruguayan coach said Forlan, best player in South Africa 2010, will substitute Suarez.
So far, Forlan, 35, was in the list of substitute players of the Uruguayan team.
On Monday, the medical chief of the Uruguayan team, Alberto Pan, said Suarez is recovering from the left knee injury, though he did not talk about a term to achieve a full recovery.
Meanwhile, in Tuesday morning training session, Sebastian Coates replaced defender Diego Godin from Spain's Atletico de Madrid, who arrived on Monday to Montevideo after playing the final game of UEFA Champions League on Sunday.
Uruguay will play two friendly matches in Montevideo before travelling to Brazil. The first one against Northern Ireland on Friday and the second one against Slovenia on June 4.
Group D includes Uruguay, Costa Rica, England and Italy. The Uruguayan team will debut against Costa Rica on June 14.
Under Tavarez's leadership, Uruguay won Copa America 2011 and fourth place in South Africa 2010.
