Dortmund upset Bayern 3-0 in German Bundesliga

BERLIN, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Dortmund brought Bayern down to earth with a 3-0 win meanwhile Hamburg and Stuttgart conceded late goals at their relegation battles in the 30th round of Bundesliga on Saturday.

Dortmund inflicted newly-crowned champions Bayern Munich their second straight loss in the league at the top match. Despite the loss, Bayern have a 17-point advantage atop the standing meanwhile Dortmund cemented their second place and a Champions League berth for next season.

Bayern started with a higher percentage of possession but lacked in vigour to overcome Dortmund's well-positioned defense. In contrast, Dortmund needed only a few chances to break the deadlock on the road through Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who found the back of the net after a Marco Reus' build-up in the 20th minute.

Bayern nearly restored parity before the break but Roman Weidenfeller saved Mario Mandzukic's volley from close range.

After the restart Dortmund shocked the Bavarians as Marco Reus completed a fast break to make it 2-0 in the 49th minute. The visitors were not done with the scoring since Jonas Hoffmann made it three, seven minutes later to kill the game.

Things changed from bad to worse for the German champions as Rafinha was sent off with a straight red card for a violent conduct to Mkhitaryan, rounding off Dortmund 3-0 away triumph in the closing period.

Hannover ease their relegation worries with a last grasp 2-1 victory over Hamburg. Didier Ya Konan scored the winner to hand the "Reds" vital points on home soil. With the result Hamburg remain on a relegation play off berth meanwhile Hannover worked out a five-point advantage to the drop zone.

Hannover took the reins from the start and shocked the "Rothosen" with just nine minutes into the game. Lars Stindl met Edgar Prib's cross at the edge of the box to head home for the opener.

The lead gave the hosts momentum and they nearly doubled the lead through Ya Konan but Hamburg's Michael Mancienne scratched the header from the goal line.

Hamburg gained a foothold and recovered three minutes into the second half when Hakan Calhanoglu's free kick cancelled out Lars Stindl's opener.

After the equalizer both sides tried to take no risks. Nevertheless Didier Ya Konan struck the winner following a rebound with four minutes remaining to inflict Hamburg the 17th loss of the season.

Relegation-threatened Stuttgart squander a 1-0 lead to share the spoils with Monchengladbach. Juan Arango secured Monchengladbach a late 1-1 draw to punish wasteful Stuttgart.

Stuttgart was the more threatening team most of the time therefore they were able to break the deadlock with just 12 minutes on the clock. Long term injured Daniel Didavi utilized a misplaced shot by Timo Werner to slot home from six meters into the top left. It is the first goal for Didavi since April 2012.

Monchengladbach lacked in penetration whilst Stuttgart almost doubled the lead through Martin Harnik but "Foals" goalkeeper Marc Andre ter Stegen denied one on one just before the break.

However, Stuttgart failed to put the result beyond doubt therefore Monchengladbach were capable to snatch one-point on the road by courtesy of Juan Arango, who headed home in the 89th minute. Once again Stuttgart gave away a neat lead in the dying minutes of the game in the Bundesliga.

At the other bottom clash, Freiburg reaped a 2-0 triumph over last positioned Braunschweig. The victory ensures three decisive points for Freiburg's survival in the top flight and puts an end to Braunschweig's winning streak of two games.

Braunschweig's Damir Vrancic helped Christian Streich's side to open the scoring with an own goal at the eighth minute before Julian Schuster made it two after the break. With the three points Freiburg stay five points clear of the relegation zone.

Elsewhere, Wolfsburg jumped on fourth position, a Champions League play off spot, as they came from behind to crush next to last Nuremberg 4-1.

Mainz boosted their UEFA Europa League hopes when they cruised to a 3-0 victory over Bremen.

The following matches are scheduled for Sunday: struggling Leverkusen encounter Berlin while Hoffenheim host Augsburg.
