BAKU, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Head coach of the Azerbaijani football team Berti Vogts has been appointed as a special advisor to the U.S. national team' s coach Klinsmann through the 2014 World Cup to be held in Brazil.

The U.S. Soccer Federation earlier appealed to the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) to allow Berti Vogts be a special advisor to the U.S. national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann during the World Cup 2014 in Brazil, AFFA briefed the press on Monday.

"We are absolutely thrilled to have Berti join us as an advisor," Klinsmann said in a release. He was my coach for Germany in the 1990s and we have a great relationship."

Vogts is a former Germany international who coached the team to the 1996 European championship. Klinsmann was a player on that Germany squad.
