LONDON, March 1 (Xinhua) -- China's Ding Junhui, ranked third in the world, beat English veteran Joe Perry 6-4 in the semifinals of the Welsh Open on Saturday and set up a final showdown with five-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan in Newport.

The 26-year-old Ding, who has won four ranking titles this season - including the German Masters last month - will equal the record of five set by Stephen Hendry in the 1990-91 season should win in Newport on Sunday.

O'Sullivan defeated Barry Hawkins 6-2 in the day's other semifinal. Victory on Sunday would give the 38-year-old the 26th ranking title of his career.
