PANAMA CITY, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) lifted the two-year suspension imposed to Panama and again approved the Panamanian Basketball Federation (Fepaba), Panama' s Olympic Committee (COP) said at a statement on Sunday.
FIBA' s legal advisor Gabriel Baum Sunday informed that the organization' s central bureau in Barcelona, Spain, decided to lift the suspension imposed to Panama' s basketball since two years ago, the COP statement said.
FIBA Americas imposed the suspension due to internal conflicts in the Panamanian basketball, which even led to have two federations in the Central American country.
The statement added that Fepaba was evaluated after the election process held on Jan. 31 called by FIBA, who ratified that the elections were transparent.
The approval was also for COP and the Panamanian Sports Institute.
According to the statement, FIBA' s Secretary General Patrick Baumann and FIBA Americas' Secretary General Alberto Garcia welcomed the result of the evaluation.
