THE HAGUE, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Ajax extended the lead in the Dutch Eredivisie after booking a narrow victory 1-0 at Go Ahead Eagles on Sunday, while Vitesse drew 1-1 against NEC.

Ajax dominated the match in Deventer. However, Niklas Moisander, Kolbeinn Sigthorsson and Lesley de Sa squandered chances.

Ajax substitute Lasse Schone scored in the 74th minute. His first free-kick attempt bounced straight back from the wall, from the rebound his second attempt went into the bottom corner.

"I am happy," said Ajax coach Frank de Boer afterwards at the press conference. "We had a good weekend. I think only one team deserved to win today, which was our team, but we could have lost points here."

Vitesse was not able to win the derby of the province of Gelderland against NEC. Israeli defender Dan Mori gave the Arnhem-based team the lead after heading in a corner by Christian Atsu. The visitors from Nijmegen hunted for the equalizer, which came in the 71st minute. Michael Higdon scored.

The match between FC Groningen and number three FC Twente was postponed, because there was too much ice on the field in the Euroborg stadium. The Dutch Football Association KNVB did not announce a new date yet.

Also on Sunday Cambuur beat Heerenveen 3-1 in the Frisian derby and on Saturday ADO Den Haag surprised Feyenoord 3-2 to leave the bottom spot. Jetro Willems earned PSV a 1-0 win over AZ.

With 43 points from 20 matches Ajax went two points clear at the top of the Eredivisie having won each of their last eight league games. Vitesse (20-41) are second, FC Twente (19-37) third and Feyenoord (20-36) fourth and NEC (20-19) are bottom of the table.
