KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shuttler Li Xuerui, also the No. 1 seed, beat her teammate Wang Shixian here on Sunday, claiming the women's singles title in Malaysia Open 2014.
In the first set, Li won easily by the score of 21-16. In the second, Li still had a lead initially until Wang, the No. 2 seed, began to catch up and surged ahead by 8-5. However, due to a series of mistakes of Wang, Li got a lead again and finally scored victory by 21-17.
At the press conference after match, Li said her victory relied on her successful handling of the crucial moments.
The 2014 is the first year when the Maybank Malaysia Open Superseries has been promoted to the higher level Superseries Premier, and also as the second superseries tournament of the 2014 BWF Super Series. The tournament is taking place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from Jan. 14-19, 2014 and has a total prize of 500,000 U.S. dollars.
