MELBOURNE, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- No. 3 seed David Ferrer cruised to victories Sunday in the fourth round at the Australian Open and booked a perth in quarterfinals.
Spaniard Ferrer defeated Germany's Florian Mayer 6-7(5-7), 7-5, 6-2, 6-1. After dropping the first set in the tiebreak, Ferrer bounced back to win 8 of 15 possible break points.
Ferrer had 43 unforced errors, but was aided by Mayer, who committed 49 unforced mistakes.
It is the fourth straight time for Ferrer to reach the quarterfinals at the Melbourne Park and ninth consecutive time at a Grand Slam tournament.
Ferrer reached a career-high ranking of No. 3 at the end of last season and achieved his highest-ever seeding at the Australian Open.
