MELBOURNE, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Defending champion Victoria Azarenka eased into the third round of the Australian Open here on Thursday with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Barbora Zahlavova Strycova of Czech Republic.
The Belarussian stayed firm to serve out the match in less than an hour and a half to stay on course for a hat-trick of titles.
Zahlavova Strycova scrambled to chase down almost every point, which made the two-time defending champion sweat. But Azarenka still made into the next round and will play against the winner between Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia and Yvonne Meusburger of Austria.
