THE HAGUE, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Ajax entered the winter break as leaders in the Dutch Eredivisie, after a narrow escape at Roda JC Kerkrade on Sunday thanks to two goals by 17-year-old debutant Jairo Riedewald.
Although Ajax started well and had some chances, Roda scored via Henk Dijkhuizen in the 34th minute. The latter headed in a corner by Marc Hocher: 1-0. In the remainder of the match Ajax was not able to bounce back for a long time, with especially striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson wasting some good chances.
Ten minutes from time Ajax coach Frank de Boer brought in 17-year-old Jairo Riedewald, who made his debut in the Eredivisie. The youngster had a dream debut by equalizing in the 88th minute en becoming the matchwinner in injury-time (2-1).
On Saturday Vitesse drew 2-2 at Heracles Almelo. The visitors had a good start with left back Patrick van Aanholt scoring with long distance shot in the 6th minute. Lucas Piazon doubled the score four minutes from half-time. Vitesse started the second half with a comfortable lead, but did nog secure the victory. Bryan Linssen scored twice to earn Heracles a draw.
"Heracles away is always a difficult match," said Vitesse coach Peter Bosz. "But if you take a 2-0 lead, you should win the match. In the second half we did not play football anymore. We only leaned backwards, did not keep our positions and did not keep ball possession."
Ronald Koeman returned as coach of Feyenoord after he was absent on Wednesday in the Dutch Cup match at Heracles Almelo, due to the death of his father Martin Koeman. Feyenoord beat PEC Zwolle 3-0. Lex Immers scored twice and Jean-Paul Boetius added the third goal. Also on Saturday sc Heerenveen crushed AZ 5-1 in Alkmaar. On Friday FC Twente drew 1-1 at RKC Waalwijk.
Ajax took over the first spot from Vitesse. Both teams have 37 points from eighteen matches, but Ajax have the better goal difference. FC Twente are third with 34 points and Feyenoord are fourth with 33 points. The Eredivisie will resume on January 17-19.
