CHANGCHUN, China, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Former Croatian national team coach Ljubojevic Zivco took over the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) side Jilin Northeast Tigers on Thursday.
Wang Han, the former coach of Jilin, will be Zivco's assistant in the new season of the CBA league.
Zivco, 60, had coached two CBA clubs before, Zhejiang Wanma and Xinjiang Guanghui. When he was young, he was the captain of former Yugoslav national team. In 1970s, he won a scoring title in the Yugoslavia League. In 1992, he was an assistant coach of the Croatian national team which won a silver medal in the Olympic Games. From 1998 to 2000, he was the coach of the Croatian national team.
"The Jilin team has great potential, every player has the aspiration of victory, but their defense was not very well, as I know, in the last season, their opponents can easily scored over 100 points, it is unbelievable in Europe," Zivco said.
He wants to improve the team's defensive ability as soon as possible, so that they can adapt to the new season.
"Our ranking goal is not very clear in the new season, but you will see, this team will certainly be better than before," Zivco noted.
The Jilin general manager Sun Jun told reporters that Wang Han had directed the Jilin team for three years, but he is too young and we need an experienced coach.
"I hope the new coach can lead us move forward, at least, we need to be back to the Playoffs," Sun said.
