ZEIST, The Netherlands, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Gregory van der Wiel and Nigel de Jong returned to the Netherlands squad for the forthcoming 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Hungary and Turkey, head coach Louis van Gaal announced on Friday in Zeist.
Paris Saint-Germain right back Van der Wiel received his first call-up under Van Gaal, while De Jong returned after a long injury lay-off.
"Van der Wiel has played five matches in a row for the first time since I became the head coach last year," Van Gaal explained during a press conference in Zeist. "He plays on a high level in the Champions League, so it is logic I named him."
Van Gaal also named Ajax goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, who replaced Kenneth Vermeer only recently as first goalkeeper of Ajax. The 19-year-old PSV forward Memphis Depay debuted in the squad.
Compared to the provisional squad of one week ago injured PSV goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet, FC Augsburg defender Paul Verhaegh and forwards Ruben Schaken (Feyenoord) and Ricky van Wolfswinkel (Norwich City) were left out.
'Oranje' will play Hungary on October 11 in Amsterdam and will meet Turkey in Instanbul four days later. The Dutch already certain of qualification for the World Cup.
