GUANGZHOU, China, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Top seed Sorana Cirstea was out at the first round of WTA Guangzhou Open here on Tuesday, while Briton Laura Robson was through to the second round.
Losing 6-2, 6-1 to Serbian nova Bojana Jovanovski, Cirstea blamed her defeat to hot weather and jet-lag.
"The weather is too hot here, and I am not 100 percent of myself today. I didn't have enough time to rest," she said.
"But people here are nice to me. I hope I can be here next year," she added.
At last year's tournament, the 23-year-old Romanian lost to Laura Robson in the semifinals. Today, Robson beat Serbian Jovana Jaksic.
"I did well in Game 1, but not better in the second, and that gave my opponent chances to make counter attack. Luckily I won the match at last," the 19-year-old Briton said.
Chinese trio Zheng Jie, Peng Shuai and Zheng Saisai all won their first round matches and went into the final 16.
