MOSCOW, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- President Vladimir Putin opened the Russian International Olympic University on Monday in the Black Sea resort of Sochi, the Kremlin said Monday.
The university (RIOU) was established in October 2009 under the memorandum of understanding between the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Sochi-2014 Steering Committee and the Russian Olympic Committee, according to RIOU's website.
Since 2011, the University runs special training courses for Russian regional sports leaders, Olympstroy construction company's staff and Sochi municipal employees.
Prior to Monday, RIOU main location has been in Moscow, with the subsidiary office in Sochi. After the University campus was completed in 2013, its main activity will be centered in Sochi, the host city of 22nd Winter Olympic Games and 11th Paralympics Games in February 2014.
"In the event Chairman of the IOC Coordination Commission for Sochi 2014 Jean-Claude Killy and IOC's Executive Director Gilbert Felli also take place (along with Putin)," Kremlin press service said.
Putin chairs the RIOU Board of Trustees.
Beside the Olympic University, Putin is to inspect the Olympics and Paralympics Main Situation Center.
