LAGOS, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria on Saturday pledged to investigate claims of match fixing in some matches in the ongoing 2013 Atlantic Conference of the DStv/Basketball League.
Spokesperson for the Nigeria Basketball Federations (NBBF) Patrick Omorodion told reporters in Lagos that there are claims that some clubs deliberately lost some matches for match fixing during the league.
The investigation is to determine the alleged deliberate loss to favor by some clubs at the just-concluded regular season, Omorodion said.
He told reporters that during the just-concluded regular season, some certain teams and the officials had conspired and colluded to lose their matches, at a critical time, to favor certain teams.
The spokesperson said the Investigative Panel would be headed by the NBBF Technical Director, Muktar Khaled.
Appropriate sanctions would be meted out on defaulters at the end of the investigations, he added.
