MOSCOW, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Russian city Kazan will host the 2014 European badminton championships, Russian National Badminton federation said Monday.
The agreement was signed Monday by the heads of the Russian National Badminton Federation Andrei Antropov and Badminton Europe's Poul-Erik Hoyer Larsen.
"We've been entrusted with the most prestigious European competition," Antropov was quoted by the federation's website as saying.
Kazan, the capital of Tatartstan republic, has been chosen to host the event as part of the legacy program for this year's Summer University Games.
He added that Kazan was chosen after colleagues from the Badminton Europe inspected the facilities for the Universiade and discovered the fast growing pace of this sports item in Tatarstan.
Russia successfully held the 2013 European Mixed Team Badminton Championships at the national headquarters in Ramenskoye, outside Moscow.
