Former NBA star Dantley to work as crossing guard

BEIJING, March 21 (Xinhuanet) -- Adrian Dantley, an NBA All Star and Olympian who used to play forward for the Utah Jazz is now clocking in as a crossing guard in Maryland making 14,685 dollars a year.

But this isn't a classic story of a rich star gone broke: Dantley, 58, said he does the job because he enjoys helping young children.

“All I do is work out and lift weights all the time. I was in the weight room and a couple guys were talking saying, ‘Man, I tell you what's a good job? A couple of my friends' wives they're crossing guards.’ So I heard them and I said, ‘That's something I want to do,'" said Dantley during an interview with wtop.com.

Former colleagues have described Dantley as someone who is careful with his money and he openly admits that the health care benefits that come along with the 14,685 dollars a year salary make it an attractive proposition for him.

Dantley plans to continue doing his new job for the next 20 years and said it is preferable to sitting around his house doing nothing. (agencies)
