ABUJA, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria's Flying Eagles on Monday promised to make up for an opening day loss to Mali in the 2013 African Youth Soccer Championship.
This promise was contained in a statement from the team's Media Officer, Samm Audu, in Abuja.
It said the defending champions failed to put away countless chances to allow Mali run away with a lone goal victory on Sunday in Oran.
According to the statement, Gabon and DR Congo played out a 0-0 draw in the second game in Group B to keep the section wide open.
However, skipper Abduljaleel Ajagun, speaking on behalf of the team in the statement, said they would get their title defense back on track with victories over Gabon on Wednesday and then at the weekend against DR Congo.
"We will do a lot better in our next game against Gabon on Wednesday," he said.
Moses Orkuma, a midfielder said they would ensure they do not throw away their chances as they have realized their mistake against the Junior Eagles of Mali.
