HAVANA, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Fifty-one participants from seven countries, including Cuba, are confirmed to compete at the XIV edition of the international badminton cup "Giraldilla", to be held here at the "Kid Chocolate" Sports Hall from March 21 to 24.
According to the officials of the sport on the island, the foreign delegations for the tournament will arrive from the Czech Republic, Venezuela, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Peru and Guatemala.
The competition is included in the category Future Series, and awards the winner with 1700 points for the world ranking.
Cuba's squad is comprised by ten men and seven women, headed by Osleni Guerrero, Pan American silver, champion in the single category at the 2010 and 2012 editions, and number 106 in the world list.
Guerrero finished second recently at the domestic Grand Prix organized by the Spanish Federation, where he was only beaten by the local star Paul Abiian, ranked 56th in the world and competitor in the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic Games. At the previous edition in 2012, Cuba dominated the male categories and Peru overwhelmed the female events.
