MOSCOW, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Russia has good chance to top the medals table at the Winter Olympics due in the Black Sea resort of Sochi in 2014, president of the Russian Olympics Committee said Monday.
"Our team has a possibility to perform successfully, and even to take the first place," Alexander Zhukov told the reporters.
He mentioned particularly biathlon, figure skating, skiing and snowboard as the sports where Russian team could win gold medals.
According to the official, Russia has about 40 potential gold winners in winter sports programs now.
He added that nearly all Sochi Olympic venues were ready to host the events and the visitors volume may reach 140,000 per day.
The Sochi Winter Olympics are to take place from Feb. 7 through 23, 2014.
