Sociedad draw 1-1 with ten men Celta

MADRID, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- With FC Barcelona, Atletico and Real Madrid all playing on Sunday night, Saturday saw attention fixed on the bottom half of Spain's BBVA Primera Liga.

The day began with Celta and Real Sociedad drawing 1-1 in Celta's Balaidos Stadium: a result which did little to help the home side climb away from the danger zone, although one point is possibly not a bad result considering they had to play for 40 minutes with a man less after Augusto Fernandez saw a controversial second yellow card for deliberate handball, when he really could do little to avoid contact with the ball.

Celta had opened the scoring after 32 minutes through Michael Khron-Delhi, but the visitors drew level thanks to Gorka Elustondo. Celta suffered an injury to top scorer Iago Aspes in the first half, while Real Sociedad have now finished their last 5 games against rivals with a player less on the pitch.

Levante needed a touch of fortune and a last minute own goal from Valladolid defender, Antonio Rukavina to defeat Valladolid 2-1. Javier Baraja put Valladolid ahead after eight minutes, but Jose Barquero equalized with a free kick on the stoke of halftime. In a frantic closing to the game both sides had chances, but Rukalvina was unfortunate to see a low ball in the Valladolid area strike him and bounce into his own goal.

Zaragoza and Espanyol produced a dull 0-0 draw which probably helps Espanyol more than Zaragoza, who now have the worst home record in the Primera Liga. Meanwhile Valencia and Deportivo la Coruna ended the day with a thrilling game in Deportivo's Riazor Stadum.

Jonas Goncalves put Valencia ahead after less than a minute, but two goals from Riki turned the game in Deportivo's favor on the stroke of halftime.

Deportivo were reduced to ten men early in the second period as Silvio saw his second yellow on just 52 minutes.

The home side were forced to defend desperately, but Nelson Valdez leveled the score just after the hour and Ricardo Costa's 92nd minute header broke Deportivo's hearts and leaves them bottom of the table.
