LONDON, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- London Olympic and Paralympic games attracted some 680,000 overseas visitors in the three months ending in September, the latest official data showed here on Thursday.
"There were 90,000 Games-related visits in September, which is in addition to the ONS' announcement in October, that 590,000 overseas residents completed visits to Britain in July and August in relation to London 2012 Games," said the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
Meanwhile, the ONS announced that overseas residents completed 2.6 million visits to Britain in September, an increase of 1 percent year on year.
From July to September, visits by overseas residents to Britain dropped by 4 percent year on year, but their associated spending on these visits totaled over 6 billion pounds (10 billion U.S. dollars), 6 percent higher than a year earlier.
The number of visits abroad by British residents amounted to 6.5 million in September, 5 percent higher than the same month of last year.
In the mean time, British residents made 1 percent more visits abroad in the third quarter of this year compared with a year earlier, and spent 7 percent more on these visits.
British residents have spent 26.5 billion pounds on visits abroad so far this year, an increase of 5 percent from 2011.
