BEIJING, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) --- Top seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia advanced into last eight at China Open with a comfortable 6-1, 6-3 victory over Carlos Berlocq of Argentina in the second round here on Wednesday.
This was the second encounter between these two players after Djokovic's win in the second round of 2011 US Open. Djokovic, the titleholder of 2009 and 2010 China Open, is looking for his third crown of this tournament in four years as he is making his third appearance here.
Although the Serbian successfully made the quarterfinals, the overall match did not move through as easily as the final score showed, especially since the sixth game of the second set.
After the former world No. 1 won the opening set and stormed to a 5-0 lead in the second, he lost four match points and let his opponent pull within 5-3. In the ninth game, Djokovic could not afford to lose his concentration and sealed the victory at 6-3.
Djokovic's opponent in the quarterfinals will be Jurgen Melzer of Austria, who upset sixth seed Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine 7-6 (9), 2-6, 6-1 in an earlier match.
