RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's national football team received a scare on the eve of its international friendly against Argentina when a violent storm forced its Resistencia-bound flight to deviate 300km from its original route.
Relieved players and officials cheered and exchanged high-fives upon landing in the northern Argentine city on Tuesday night, Lancenet reported.
"We encountered a very strong line of instability and had to deviate the flight-path via Paraguay," the flight's captain Carlos Henrique Bandeira said.
The chartered Whitejets flight left Sao Paulo's Guarulhos airport at 4:50pm and arrived in Resistencia at 7:15pm, half an hour behind schedule.
One of the flight staff said she had never been so nervous during her 11-year career as a flight attendant.
