BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Club Atletico River Plate Sunday defeated defending champions Arsenal de Sarandi 4-0 on the ninth match-day of Argentina's premiere league initial tournament.
With this win, River Plate, led by Matias Almeyda, broke a five-match none-victory streak (three draws and two defeats).
It allowed the team to go out of the direct relegation zone to the second division with 12 points, seven points away from the leaders Newell's Old Boys who drew 0-0 with Atletico Tigre on Sunday.
Without French David Trezeguet, River showed off with goals scored by Leonardo Ponzio in the 40th minute, Carlos Luna at 69 and Rogelio Funes Mori on 81 and 90 minutes.
Arsenal, with 11 points, played the last quarter without Colombian Carlos Carbonero, who was expelled after 75 minutes in the game played at Julio Grondona stadium in Sarandi, southern Buenos Aires.
The remaining fixtures on the ninth match-day are games between Union de Santa Fe (3) and Club Atletico Independiente (4), Boca Juniors (16) against San Martin de San Juan (6) and Club Atletico Velez Sarsfield (17) against Club Atletico Colon (12).
