Sabotage sees Real Madrid game postponed

MADRID, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- There was scandal in the Spanish BBVA Primera Liga on Sunday night when the match between Rayo Vallecano and Real Madrid had to be postponed after someone sabotaged the electric cables in Rayo's Vallecas Stadium.

The match will now be played on Monday night after saboteurs, who are suspected of being Rayo supporters angry at being forced by the club to pay extra money on top of their season ticket price to see the game, carried out the act.

Both sides wanted to play the match, despite the pitch being lit by just three lights on the main stands, but security forces refused to allow fans into the match, alleging the lack of light in the stands presented a threat to their safety.

Cristiana Cifuentes, the security delegate of the Madrid Reginoal Authority established a cut off points of 10pm for the sabotaged cables to be repaired and when that failed to happen, referee Fernandez Borbalan had little option other than to postpone the match.
