Neymar's father denies bankruptcy fears

RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- The father of Brazilian superstar Neymar has denied reports his son is living beyond his means with his famously lavish lifestyle.

Forbes magazine this week reported the 20-year-old was "spending his way to bankruptcy" due to his "irresponsible" spending habits.

The report claimed that in the past two years Neymar had purchased four properties - including a beachside mansion - a Porsche Panamera Turbo sports car and an eight-million-dollar luxury yacht.

Earlier this month the Brazil international striker chartered his own private jet from Stockholm to the southern Brazilian city of Florianopolis to play a match for his club Santos.

"I guarantee that the life of Neymar is well looked after," Neymar da Silva Santos told Tribuna on Tuesday. "There is no way this (bankruptcy) is going to occur."

The article claimed Neymar's reported annual salary of eighteen million US dollars was "way above reality" saying the figure was more likely around eight million dollars per year.

Apart from his contract with Santos, Neymar has lucrative deals with at least 10 private sponsors, including global brands like Nike, Volkswagen, Panasonic, Red Bull and Santander.
