LONDON, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Following is a numerical look at the swimming competition at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, which starts on Thursday.

17,500 - seating capacity at the Aquatics Center, the venue for swimming at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

4,200 - athletes competing in all sports at London 2012.

1960 - the year the first Paralympic Games were held in Rome, Italy. The Games involved 400 athletes from 23 countries and regions. Swimming is one of a few sports which has featured in every Paralympic Games.

600 - competitors in swimming at London 2012, comprising 340 men and 260 women. Swimming will be the second-largest competition in London behind athletics.

400 - length in meters for the longest swimming event, the 400m freestyle, at the 2012 Games.

150 - the 150m individual medley is a unique event at Paralympic Games. Swimmers only use three strokes over this distance; breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle.

148 - men's and women's swimming medal events across all classifications.

81 - swimming events for male athletes.

67 - swimming events for female athletes.

32 - gold medals won by swimmer Trischa Zorn from the United States at Paralympic Games between 1980 and 2004. She is the most decorated Paralympian in the history of the Games with a total of 46 medals (32 gold, 9 silver, 5 bronze).

17 - gold medals won by USA athletes in swimming at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, making them the most successful participants in the sport at those Games ahead of China and Ukraine.

14 - athletes with an intellectual disability compete in class 14. Class 14 was suspended for the Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.

10 - number of classifications for athletes with a physical disability, with S1 athletes having an impairment which affects their swimming of a stroke the most and S10 athletes having an impairment which affects their swimming of a stroke the least.

5 - gold medals won by Sarah Storey from Britain in Paralympic Games swimming events before she switched to cycling in 2005. Sarah won two gold medals in cycling in 2008 and during her career as a swimmer and cyclist she has broken more than 70 world records.

4 - strokes in Paralympic Games swimming: freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and breaststroke.

3 - number of classifications for athletes with a visual impairment. Class 11 swimmers have little or no sight; class 13 swimmers have limited sight.
