YANGON, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar will host first international marathon in Yangon on Jan. 27, 2013, according to sports circle on Thursday.
Hosting an international sporting event is an opportunity to showcase Myanmar's latest developments to the world while bringing about a welcome boost to the local economy.
About 1000 participants, including both locals and foreigners, are expected to take part in Yoma Yangon International Marathon.
There will be three race distances -- 42km marathon, 10km and 3km runs.
The races will begin and end at People's Park, situated one block from one of Yangon's most iconic and pircturesque landmarks, the Shwedagon Pagoda.
