Gymnast Berki wins Hungary's Sportsman of the Year award   2011-12-20 08:09:33            

BUDAPEST, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Hungary's Sportsman of the Year title went to the gymnast Krisztian Berki at an awards ceremony here on Monday.

The 26-year-old gymnast, 2010 and 2011 world gold medallist in the pommel horse, won the title ahead of swimming world champion Daniel Gyurta in second and the sprint canoer Attila Vajda in third.

The Sportswomen of the Year award was won by Tamara Csipes who took two individual gold medals at the World Canoe-Kayak World Champions held in Szeged, Hungary, in 2011. Fellow kayaker Danuta Kozak came second while the pentathlete Sarolta Kovacs came third.

The best national team manager of the year award was awarded to canoe-kayak head Botond Storcz, while trainer of the year award went to top canoe-kayak coach Ferenc Csipes.

Ferencvaros women's handball team which lifted the European Winners Cup in 2011 picked up the Team of the Year award ahead of the men's pentathlon team and the women's kayak fours.

The titles are awarded on the basis of votes from leading sports journalists.
