BEIJING, March 24 (Xinhuanet) -- The "Belt and Road" initiatives and central government's support to the Ningxia Inland Open-up Pilot Economic Zone give a new positioning to Yinchuan, capital of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, said Ma Li, the mayor and a NPC deputy.
The Ministry of Commerce, China Council for Promotion of International Trade and the region will co-host the second China-Arab Expo in Yinchuan in September.
"This means great opportunities for Yinchuan," said the mayor, adding that the capital city would make use of this strategic platform to speed up the development of an open economy.
The Yuehaiwan central business district, the only waterfront eco-CBD in northwest China and the pilot China-Arab trade zone, will begin operation within the year and will welcome a group of corporate headquarters to promote Arab investment in Ningxia and cooperative projects, said Ma Li.
Besides, the Yinchuan Comprehensive Bonded Zone is the "core engine" to develop an inland open economy, he added.
As of the end of 2014, 102 registered enterprises in the Yinchuan Comprehensive Bonded Zone achieved an import and export trade volume of 1.73 billion U.S. dollars while the city reported record efficiency in "approval, construction and taking effect" of investment projects, he noted.
To adapt to the "new normal" in economy, development will remain an priority in the less-developed areas while growth mode shift and structural adjustment should be more emphasized, he maintained.
Ningxia has been actively seeking new impetus to foster new economic growth points. In recent couple of years, it laid out industries of textiles, new energy, new materials, general aviation, big data, e-commerce, e-sports and other "light high-tech", as well as health industry and service industry.
