BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- Singapore-China bilateral relationship enjoys sustained, rapid and sound development since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1990. As a key national university in Singapore, Singapore Management University (SMU) aims to contribute to the Singapore-China bilateral co-operations by nurturing China-ready and bicultural graduates and engaging in China-related top-notch research projects.
Over the past year, SMU has established a number of student exchanges, collaborative education programs and research projects with top Chinese universities. For example, SMU School of Social Sciences has set up a Joint Research Centre on Developmental Studies with Fudan University in April 2013. SMU School of Information Systems has partnered Peking University (PKU) School of Software and Microelectronics (SSM) on a Double-Degree Masters program since June 2013.
SMU launched its China Forum which brought together political, business and academic leaders in Singapore on 13 Nov 2013. The forum addressed the latest political, economic and social trends taking place in China during the time of economic transition. Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam was the Guest-of-Honor in inaugurating the forum series. Prominent Chinese scholars from leading universities including Peking University, Fudan University and Southwest University of Finance and Economics participated in the high-profile 1-day event in Singapore.
SMU Global Forum Series is a collaborative initiative between SMU and leading Chinese universities to provide a high-level dialogue platform for leaders from business, government and the wider community with academia on the key challenges and opportunities in China’s future development as well as to share Singapore’s experiences in managing its own transformation into one of the world’s most successful economies. The SMU-Tsinghua Global Forum on Urbanization and Urban Governance and the SMU-Fudan Global Forum on Development and Governance were both successfully held in Beijing and Shanghai respectively in April 2014.
