MONTEVIDEO, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Some 30 people were arrested for violent celebration on Tuesday after Uruguay beat Italy 1-0 to advance to the round of 16 at the World Cup in Brazil.

Violent fans hurled stones and bottles in Montevideo's city center after the match. Two policemen were injured in the disturbances.

Public institutions, transport services and shops stopped service while the match was on. Many schools also suspended lessons so that teachers and students could watch the game.

Diego Godin scored the winner for Uruguay in the 80th minute.
