BEIJING, Sept. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- U.S. space agency NASA is partnering with Harmonic to launch the first non-commercial consumer Ultra High Definite (UHD or 4K) channel in North America, according to media reports on Monday.

NASA will be utilizing an end-to-end UHD video delivery system from Harmonic, the worldwide leader in video delivery infrastructure.

Starting from Nov. 1, NASA will deliver UHD content, or 2,160p at 60 frames per second, to enable consumers to enjoy crystal-clear footage on a wide range of television and IP-connected devices.

At present, NASA is providing streaming videos on Youtube.

NASA UHD video is being sourced from high-resolution images and video generated on the International Space Station, Hubble Space Telescope, and other current NASA missions.

Its TV programs will also include remastered footage from historical missions, shots from NASA's development and training processes, and live launches.
