International Space Station crew safe despite alarm: NASA

English.news.cn   2015-01-14 22:57:00

WASHINGTON, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- The International Space Station reported an alarm in the U.S. segment early Wednesday morning, but the six astronauts aboard were all safe, NASA said.

"The Expedition 42 crew members are safe and in good shape inside the Russian segment of the International Space Station following an alarm in the U.S. segment at about 4 a.m. EST (0900 GMT)," NASA said in a statement.

The space agency said it saw readings that could indicate an ammonia leak in a worst-case scenario and acted conservatively to protect the crew.

"It is not yet known whether the alarm was triggered by a leak, a faulty sensor or a computer problem," it added.
