LJUBLJANA, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Ljubljana and three other cities in Slovenia on Monday joined the Zero Waste Europe network in a bid to reduce waste and boost recycling in the country.
A waste management network will be set up in four cities, including Borovnica, Log-Dragomer and Vrhnika. The pledge was made as the president of Zero Waste Europe, Rossano Ercolini, visited Slovenia.
Prior to this pledge, Ljubljana in July adopted a zero waste strategy through 2035, vowing to reduce the annual amount of residual waste per inhabitant to 60 kg, to decrease the amount of landfill waste to 30 kg, and to raise the recycling rate to 75 percent.
Ljubljana was declared by the European Commission as the "European Green Capital 2016" in June to acknowledge its contribution to environmental protection.
