Controversial STAP paper co-author confirmed dead after committing suicide

English.news.cn   2014-08-05 11:02:15

TOKYO, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- A co-author of the controversial STAP paper, Yoshiki Sasai, was confirmed dead after committing suicide Tuesday, local police said.

Sasai was brought to emergency medical care after attempting suicide, Japan's Kyodo News cited police as saying.

The research papers on stimulus-triggered acquisition of pluripotency, or STAP, cells by the Japanese government-affiliated Riken research institute were published in British science journal Nature, but were later retracted due to research misconduct.
