MOSCOW, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Russian government has undertaken tough measures to pull the space industry out from the ditch, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Wednesday.
"To interrupt the string of failures that happened during 2011, we had to tighten the screws," Medvedev said in an annual report of the government's work in 2012 to the State Duma, or lower house of the parliament.
Among the measures the government has undertaken, Medvedev mentioned altering the quality control system in space enterprises.
According to him, that measure has already "born its fruits."
Meanwhile, the government has been reorganizing the industry's management structures, he added.
Earlier in April, President Vladimir Putin said the government would spend 1.6 trillion roubles (50 billion U.S. dollars) on space-related activities till 2020.
He did not rule out the possibility that a ministry for space exploration could be established in the future.
