YIXING, July 10, 2016 (Xinhua) -- Yu Wenjiao (front) is on her way to distribute food and drinking water in Yuanshang Village of Xizhu Township in Yixing, east China's Jiangsu Province, July 7, 2016. A flood hit Yixing City recently due to torrential rain, the flow of water from upper reaches and high water level of the Taihu Lake, causing severe waterlogging in some low-lying areas. To make a contribution to flood relief, the volunteer Yu Wenjiao set a group chat via Tencent messaging services WeChat, sending survival necessities for free to people affected by the flood. More and more volunteers joined the charity group chat, donated money and living goods and provided assistance to trapped residents. The quantity of members of the group increased to nearly 300 in just six days. They have received over 34,000 RMB yuan (about 5,084 U.S. dollars) donation from netizens, distributed relief materials worth about 50,000 RMB yuan (7,476 U.S. dollars) and helped residents of more than 2,000 families.
