Photo provided by Galapagos National Park Directorate (DPNG, for its acronym in Spanish) on Oct. 21, 2015, shows a turtle recently distinguished as a new species of giant turtle in Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador. According to DPNG, a group of national and international researchers was able to determine that the islands have one more species of giant turtle, which was previously considered as part of the same species. According to the research, the turtles living at the eastern side of Santa Cruz Island, around the area known as "Cerro Fatal", belong to a new species that will be designated as Chelonoidis donfaustoi, in honor to Don Fausto Llerena, an historical turtle carer of the DPNG.
