Vietnam kicks off 2015 year-end parliament meeting with "significant issues"

HANOI, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- The 10th session of the 13th National Assembly (NA) kicks off Tuesday in Vietnam's capital Hanoi with "significant issues" to be considered.

"This is a year-end session with many significant issues to be discussed and decided when the country is striving to fulfill social-economic development targets for 2015 and the five-year period of 2011-2015," NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said in his opening remark.

The country is also preparing for the elections of deputies for the next NA and people's councils at all level in 2016, Hung added.

At the session, Vietnamese legislature is expected to adopt 18 bills, including Civil Code (amended), Criminal Code (amended), Bill on Custody, Bill on Referendum, Vietnam's Maritime Code (amended), and Bill on Export and Import Taxes (amended), among others.

During 31 working days, the NA will elect a national electoral council for the upcoming elections of deputies for NA and people's councils at all level, as well as the post of NA Secretary General.

Also on Tuesday morning, Vietnamese Prime Minister presented a government's report on socio-economic situation in 2015, five year period of 2011-2015, directions and missions for 2016 and five-year period of 2016-2020 on the opening of the session.

The 10th session of the 13th National Assembly is set to last through Nov. 28.
