According to local press, breast cancer is the third leading cause of death among women in Ecuador, with the highest incidence in women over 55 years. The SOLCA is a non-profit organization to fight cancer through advocacy, education, prevention, early diagnosis and treatment, It strives to reduce the morbidity and mortality as well as provide a better quality of life for patients. Each Oct. 19 is celebrated as the International Day of the Fight against Breast Cancer, an initiative that tries to raise awareness on the importance of the early diagnosis of the illness.
