A South Korean district court handed a 36-year prison sentence Tuesday to the captain of Sewol ferry that sank in April leaving 295 people dead and 9 missing, after convicting him of gross negligence leading to death. The court found the chief engineer of the vessel guilty of murder and gave him a 30-year jail term. He was accused of leaving the vessel without helping injured colleagues.Prison terms ranging from five to 20 years were given to 13 other crew members.
