The nominees for the 86th Academy Awards were announced on January 16, 2014, at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California. Five movies were nominated for Best Visual Effects this year. They are "Gravity", "Iron Man 3", "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug", "The Lone Ranger" and "Star Trek into Darkness".

Gravity sweeps 6 Bafta prizes
LONDON, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- American film Gravity on Sunday evening became the biggest winner at the 67th British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards (Bafta), scooping six trophies in total.
Filmed in Britain, the lost-in-space thriller won the award for Outstanding British Film, while director Alfonso Cuaron was also awarded as the Bafta Director. It also won the awards for Cinematography, Original Film Music, Sound and Special Visual Effects. Full Story
