Laborers work in a bronze drum foundry in Huanjiang Maonan Ethnic Autonomous County, southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The foundry has made more than 10,000 bronze drums since 2000. Inspired by the shape of drum or bronze basin, bronze drums are percussion instrument of the ethnic groups in southwest China. The bronze drum was initiated in the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC). Hollow and floorless, it looks like a round stump, with flat surface and curled middle part. Images of the toads, tortures, birds and knights are usually carved on the drum as decorations. (Xinhua/Zhang Yanhui)
